Stoic Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 30, 2026

Stoic is a personal focus and goal-setting app. This policy explains what data Stoic handles and how.

Summary: Stoic does not have user accounts, does not track you, and does not sell your data. Your goals, missions, and reflections stay on your device and in your personal iCloud. The only data that leaves your device is text you choose to send to our AI features, which we forward to OpenAI to generate suggestions and then discard.

Data Stoic stores on your device

Everything you create in Stoic is stored locally using Apple's SwiftData framework, and optionally backed up to your personal iCloud private database via CloudKit. This includes:

  • Your goal, "why," finish line, and deadline
  • Daily missions you create or accept
  • Focus session logs and completed-mission history
  • Written reflections and saved thoughts
  • Notification preferences and reminder times

We do not have access to any of this data. iCloud sync uses your Apple ID and stays inside your personal iCloud account. Apple's iCloud terms govern that storage.

Data sent to our AI backend

When you use AI-powered features, including mission suggestions and the Guide chat, Stoic sends the following to our backend server:

  • Your goal text: title, "why," finish line
  • Recent completed missions, title only
  • Recent reflection or "proof" notes, if any
  • Your current message or prompt for the Guide chat

Our backend forwards this to OpenAI to generate suggestions or chat responses, and returns the result to your device. Per OpenAI's API terms, inputs sent through the API are not used to train OpenAI's models and are retained by OpenAI for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring only.

Our backend does not persist your requests to a database. Standard server logs, including IP address, timestamp, and request status, are retained for up to 30 days for debugging and abuse prevention, then deleted.

Data we do not collect

  • We do not collect your name, email, phone number, or Apple ID.
  • We do not use analytics or tracking SDKs.
  • We do not use advertising identifiers.
  • We do not share, sell, or rent any data to third parties.
  • Stoic does not track you across other apps or websites.

Permissions Stoic asks for

  • Notifications - to deliver your daily reminder at the time you set. Optional.
  • Microphone - only used when you tap the voice-input button to speak a mission. Audio is transcribed on-device by Apple's Speech framework and never leaves your device as audio.
  • Speech recognition - same as above, used only for voice mission entry.
  • iCloud - used for cross-device sync via CloudKit. Data goes to your private iCloud database, not to us.

You can revoke any of these permissions in iOS Settings at any time.

Subscriptions and payments

Stoic is a paid app with a free trial. Subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. Your payment method, billing address, and transaction details are handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy and never touch our systems.

Stoic receives only a subscription entitlement, an active or inactive flag, from Apple's StoreKit framework. We do not collect or store your payment information, card details, or purchase history.

To manage or cancel a subscription: iOS Settings > your name > Subscriptions.

Children

Stoic is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.

Your rights

Because Stoic doesn't have accounts and doesn't store your data on our servers, most data-subject requests aren't applicable. You can:

  • Delete all local and iCloud-synced data: delete the Stoic app from every device, then remove Stoic data from iCloud in iOS Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > Manage Storage > Stoic.
  • Ask questions or request more info: email us at the address below.

For users in the EU/UK (GDPR) or California (CCPA): we act as a data controller only for the brief moments your requests transit our backend. We do not sell personal information.

Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we'll change the "Last updated" date and, for material changes, note them prominently in the app or on this page.
